Author: Joel Beinin

Joel Beinin is the Donald J. McLachlan Professor of History, Emeritus at Stanford University. His most recent book is A Critical Political Economy of the Modern Middle East (Stanford University Press, 2020); co-edited with Bassam Haddad and Sherene Seikaly.

Achcar’s engagement with a wide array of left-wing Arab forces as well as many Israeli Jewish oppositional intellectuals, allows him to imagine a different future for the Middle East and North Africa even as the forces that may bring it about are weak and scattered today.

Joel Beinin, Emeritus Professor at Stanford, discusses the politics of the Palestinian left and Hamas, and the US policies in Israel/Palestine.
