On the World Economic Crisis

The Covid-19 pandemic and the worldwide lockdown have triggered a depression as great as that of the 1930s. The causes of this crisis, the character of government policies, and the programs put forward by working class groups are of concern to all of us. So, to look into these questions, we spoke with Eric Toussaint, a leading analyst of these matters.

Eric Toussaint is a historian and political scientist who completed his Ph.D. at the universities of Paris VIII and Liège. He is the spokesperson of CADTM International, and sits on the Scientific Council of ATTAC France.

CADTM is the Committee for the Abolition of Illegitimate Debt, an international network of activists and local committees from across Europe and Latin America, Africa and Asia, founded in Belgium on March 15, 1990. CADTM campaigns for the cancellation of “illegitimate, illegal, odious, and unsustainable” debt in developing countries and for “the creation of a world respectful of people’s fundamental rights, needs and liberties.”

ATTAC is the Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and Aid to Citizens) founded in France in December 1998 and one of the leading organizations of the anti-globalization movement.
